Gas Mileage Tips: Save Gas, Emit Less CO2
#1
Maintain
your vehicle. Regular service and maintenance will
make it run more
efficiently and use less gas. Change the air
filter, put enough
air in the tires, and get your engine well
maintained.
#2
Drive less during peak traffic. A lot of exhaust is emitted just
sitting in traffic. Take public transportation, ride in a
carpool,
change your schedule to miss traffic, or walk and ride
a bicycle
more often to save gas and emit less CO2.
#3
Drive the limit. Don't speed! You will emit less just by
not
speeding. Driving the speed limit saves gas. Fuel efficiency
goes down considerable as you go faster than 65 mph and
significantly drops above 70mph.
#4
Skip all drive-through.
Sitting idle is not an efficient use of a
gallon of gas.
#5
Start and go. Most new
engines don't need to 'warm up'
anymore.
#6
Plan ahead to minimize
cold engine starts by going places that
are near one another when you run errands.
#7
Pick up speed at a moderate
pace.
#8
Lighten your load. Empty any
unnecessary weight to get better
gas mileage.
#9
Moderate using the AC and
defroster, both reduce fuel
economy.
Two additional fuel economy tips for hybrid vehicle drivers:
#1
Judge traffic flow and glide
to a stop and avoid a hard stops.
#2
In stop and go traffic,
accelerate to your desired speed and
maintain it using electric power as long as you can without
engaging the gasoline engine. |
